A Norfolk County OPP officer has been charged with careless driving after his police cruiser went off the road and hit a tree while the officer was responding to a call on the night of Dec. 3.
According to Sgt. David Rektor from OPP West Region headquarters, the officer was driving on Windham Road 7 around 8 p.m. and failed to stop at the dead-end road. His Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser ran off the road, struck a tree and ended up coming to rest against a dirt berm.
The officer, a constable who has been with the force for 11 months, was uninjured in the collision. His cruiser sustained what Rektor called "extensive damage."
