Arrows open up playoffs in style

The Six Nations Arrows big guns came to play in the opening game of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League playoffs.

Hosting the Toronto Beaches Sunday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Sunday, Travis Longboat scored a hat trick and added eight assists, while Austin Staats scored three and had five assists, and Cory Highfield netted four and added four assists in a 15-6 victory.

After Tristan Hannam Highfield and Aaron Forster exchanged goals in the early going, the Arrows took over. Staats, Highfield, Tehoke Nanticoke and Longboat all gave the Arrows a lead they wouldn’t give up, despite a pair of Beaches goals from Corson Kealy and Forster.

Nanticoke’s pair, along with goals from Longboat and Staats increased the lead in the second period, with Nathan Grenon being the lone Beaches response.

The Arrows continued to pour it on in the third period. Highfield added two more, while Cody Ward, Nanticoke, Longboat and Staats picked up one each.

Hanna scored for the Beaches.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Tuesday in Toronto, with Game 3 at the ILA Thursday at 8 p.m.
